After a long week at work, one of the things I look forward to most on the weekend is attending a midnight movie. The best spots for midnight movies in New York City today are still the Landmark Sunshine Cinema and the IFC Center (the Chelsea Cinema continues to play The Rocky Horror Picture Show every weekend with the official NYC Rocky Horror shadowcast). In 2015, I got to attend almost as many midnight screenings as I had in 2014. I’m happy to report that only 5 of the 23 midnight screenings I attended last year were films that I had already seen on the big screen (The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which marked the 19th time I’d seen it on the big screen in over a seven-year period; The Warriors, which marked the third time I’d seen it on the big screen and first time in five years; Jaws, which marked the third time I’d seen it on the big screen in the last 12 years; Superman, which marked the first time I’d seen it on the big screen in nine years; and The Neverending Story, which marked the first time I’d seen it on the big screen in six years). All 23 films were very enjoyable, and I look forward to continue watching midnight movies in 2016.
