Reactions To 2012 Academy Award Nominations Part Three

(continued from Reactions To 2012 Academy Award Nominations Part Two)

Best Original Song
Probably the biggest surprise for me is the nod for Ted.  Finally, Walter Murphy and Seth MacFarlane (this year’s host) can call themselves Oscar nominees.  It’s too bad they weren’t nominated for the “Thunder Buddy” song (just kidding, although that would’ve been fun to watch at the Oscars; possibly the best 15 seconds on the telecast just for the audience’s reactions).  I think Adele has a good chance at winning for Skyfall.

Best Visual Effects
I’m pissed that Snow White and the Huntsman got nominated; that slot should’ve gone to The Dark Knight RisesThe Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will probably win, although I’m also rooting for Prometheus and The Avengers (this category gave them their only nods).

Best Costume Design
I’m also pissed that Mirror Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsman were nominated here.  Django Unchained should’ve gotten a nod here, as well as The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Best Makeup and Hairstyling
It would be a crime if The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey doesn’t win here.

Best Sound Editing
Quite frankly, I’m stunned by the omissions of The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers.  Just stunned.

Best Sound Mixing
See ‘Best Sound Editing.’

Best Animated Short
Audiences will most likely be familiar with Paperman, which preceded Wreck-It Ralph in theaters, and The Longest Daycare, which preceded the most recent Ice Age movie in theaters last summer.  One of those two will probably win.

Best Live Action Short
No comment (I haven’t seen any of the nominees).
