Constructive Editing: A New David Bordwell Video Essay

David Bordwell has posted a terrific new video essay on constructive editing on his blog (which can be accessed in my blogroll to the right).  The video contains examples from silent films such as Harold Lloyd’s 1920 film Number, Please? and Lev Kuleshov’s 1918 film Engineer Prite’s Project to more recent films such as Takeshi Kitano’s 1993 film Sonatine, David Fincher’s The Social Network and Roman Polanski’s The Ghost Writer (both from 2010).  Courtesy of the Criterion Collection, a clip from Robert Bresson’s 1959 film Pickpocket is also included for analysis.  I’ve included the video essay below.  Please enjoy!
